Siblings Eva and Mads live in two neighbouring apartments in Copenhagen with their respective families. They themselves come from a nuclear family that was well-functioning and nice on the outside - but dysfunctional on the inside.

Mads works as a music teacher, but escapes into a world of partying and drugs, where he can forget the predictable everyday life and family in order to feel alive. Mads' life in the underworld with alcohol, drugs and prostitutes is becoming harder and harder to keep apart from his loved ones. Mads does his best to cover it up towards his wife Kristina, Eva and his work, but it's only a matter of time before the many broken promises and poor excuses fall short.

Eva's architectural firm gets into serious trouble when they lose a large and vital contract because their contact person tragically dies in a car accident. Eva is desperate and uses dubious methods to hiding the crisis from her outside world – not least the fact that the deceased contact person was also her lover. Eva must now do her best to save both her company and her marriage.

Throughout the series, we follow Eva and Mads' struggle to free themselves from old patterns and each create a good life for themselves. As the drugs begin to take over more and more of Mads' life, it is not only his life that crumbles, but also Eva's. As a big sister, she has always looked after him and protected him, so of course there is no limit to how far she will go to save him now. Or is there?
