This is the true story of Börje Salming’s incredible journey from an outcast struggling to find his place in a society that doesn’t believe in him, to becoming a beloved and world-famous hockey player, one of the first European players in the NHL. The limited drama series traces this journey made by a young boy destined to work in the mines of Kiruna, a small town located in the outskirts of Northern Sweden, to his legendary 1970s showdown with the Toronto Maple Leafs. It’s also the story of unconditional love between Börje and Margitta, the girl that decides to board the plane to Toronto with him, thrown into instant hockey stardom trying to cope with the unwritten rules surrounding the team and norms of being married to the NHL player of the year. Börje is met with violent resistance on his journey - his famously scarred face comes to represent an unbreakable spirit that hockey players everywhere aspire to possess.

Börje was the first Swedish player inducted into the prestigious Hockey Hall of Fame, he broke numerous records, captured the hearts of millions of fans and paved the way for countless Europeans to forge careers in the NHL, the world's best ice hockey league.
