Home In You

Favourite
The Haddad family is forced to move when their landlord in “Smedsby” decides to renovate all apartments, a crisis that threatens to split the already divided family.

The Haddad family find themselves on the verge of eviction as gentrification pushes them out of their Stockholm suburb, Smedsby. As they scramble to find a new home during an idyllic Swedish summer, the family clashes with each other and with their surroundings. The immigrant parents from Lebanon strive to understand their more assimilated children, who grapple with the challenges of adolescence and dual identities. Amidst this turmoil, they embark on a journey of self-discovery, seeking not only a new home in Sweden but also a sense of belonging within their own family unit.

Driven by the unique perspective of its creators, who pour their history into the story, Home In You is a series that sheds light on societal problems surrounding immigration and gentrification, delicately balancing serious topics with humour and warmth.

Created by a team with deeply personal connections to the story, Home in You offers an intimate and authentic portrayal of a family caught between two worlds. Directors Julia Lindström (Young Royals, Riding in Darkness), Alexander Abdallah (We Were Children Then), and Mustafa Al-Mashhadani (We Were Children Then) bring their unique perspectives to a series that blends warmth, humour, and social commentary. Screenwriters Alexander Abdallah, Mustafa Al-Mashhadani, and Mikael Newihl (The Street Where I Live, Max Anger - With One Eye Open) craft a narrative that challenges stereotypes and sheds light on the complexities of identity, belonging, and generational divides.

Produced by Jim Cargill (Stockholm Bloodbath, Hilma) and Adam Lunneborg (Black Angels, We Were Children Then), Home in You features a dynamic mix of professional and first-time actors, creating a raw and naturalistic energy. Alexander Abdallah (Paradis City, Thunder in My Heart, Snabba Cash) and Mustafa Al-Mashhadani (Thin Blue Line, A Part of You) take on roles unlike any they’ve played before, while the casting process, spanning both traditional searches and street casting, brings fresh, authentic voices to the screen. The ensemble also includes Isa Aouifia (Taelgia, Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter, Honour), Helen Al-Janabi (Beartown, Bullets), Jenna Chaaraoui (JJ+E), and Matteus Gezer.
