When a girl finds the remains of a corpse, the unsolved murder is just one piece in a larger international and political game with links back to the Cold War.
The River is set in Northern Norway, where the Cold War never ended, and the close-knit village of Djupelv everyone knows not to ask too many questions. However, things change when a little girl finds the remains of a body while out playing. The family doesn’t want to get involved so tip off the police anonymously, but later that day the girl mysteriously disappears.
Recently arrived police officer Thomas Lønnhøiden hates lies and secrets, and refuses to let things lie despite repeated warnings, but as he begins to investigate the little girl’s disappearance he awakens some very dangerous forces.
