In 1898, Swedish immigrant Olof Öhman claimed to have discovered a runestone in Minnesota that suggested Viking explorers reached North America more than a century before Columbus. More than 120 years later, the stone remains one of history's most controversial mysteries.

In The American Runestone, acclaimed actor Peter Stormare (Fargo, Prison Break, The Blacklist) travels across Minnesota to uncover the truth. Born just a few miles from Öhman's hometown in Sweden, Stormare embarks on a deeply personal journey, meeting historians, archaeologists, sceptics and believers as he investigates whether one discovery could rewrite American history.

Combining humour, history and detective work, the series follows Stormare's quest to clear Öhman's name and solve a mystery that continues to divide experts to this day.
